2017 International Festival of Films on Art
Provencher_Roy
Provencher_Roy supports the 35th edition of the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA), taking place this March 23 to April 2, 2017 in Montreal.
FIFA 2017 kicks off today, March 23rd, and Provencher_Roy is proud to once again be associated with this event that unveils the world's best films on art and media arts. Indeed, of the 170 films being presented, representing 25 countries, this 35th edition will feature 25 Canadian premieres, 38 North American premieres and 36 world premieres.
“Art is nothing without its stories—this is the guiding principle behind the programming of this new edition, a selection of works that will delight, provoke and question you, prompting reflections on the importance of art in our society and lives. Also part of the festival is the International Market of Films on Art (MIFA), which explores the latest trends and synergies among creators, distributors and cultural institutions. I would like to thank the public partners that have supported this 35th edition: Canadian Heritage, the Government of Québec, SODEC, the City of Montreal, the Conseil des arts de Montréal, Telefilm Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts, and Tourisme Montréal. I would also like to thank the Consulate General of France in Québec, the Délégation Wallonie-Bruxelles au Québec, and the Consulate General of Switzerland for their support.
Provencher_Roy, an architectural film, will present the architectural films. We are also very pleased to announce that ICI ARTV will be the official presenter of the films in competition, and are grateful we can count on its tremendous support,” announced FIFA Executive Director Natalie McNeil during the unveiling of the programming back on March 7.
Programming
The 35th FIFA comprises four sections sure to delight festival-goers: Competition, Panorama, Experimental FIFA and New Narratives. In the words of Programming Director Anita Hugi,
“It is a real honour to be able to build on the great legacy of FIFA, and an immense pleasure to develop it even further, like an evolving work, so as to contribute to the future of the documentary. The international competition, the result of some difficult decisions for jurors, emphasizes boldness and celebrates all documentary forms. The Panorama section features works by artists and provides an overview of the current production, while our new section, New Narratives (virtual reality, Web series, interactive documentaries), invites viewers to explore the very latest artistic formats.”
Provencher_Roy will present the architectural films. These include:
- Samurai Architect: Tadao Ando, directed by Yu Nakamura and Shigenori Mizuno, with screenings March 24 at 6:15 p.m. and March 31[NB2] at 3:45 p.m.;
- Frei Otto: Spanning the Future, directed by Joshua Hassel, with screenings March 26 at 6:15 p.m. and March 31 at 6:15 p.m.;
- Phyllis Lambert, directed by Manuel Foglia, with a screening March 26 at 3:45 p.m.;
- Moshe Safdie: The Power of Architecture, directed by Donald Winkler, with a screening March 26 at 1:15 p.m.;
- Having a Cigarette with Álvaro Siza, directed by Iain Dilthey, with a screening March 25 at 8:45 p.m.
- Daniel Buren : l’observatoire de la lumière, Fondation Louis Vuitton, directed by Gilles Coudert, with screenings March 24 at 6:15 p.m. and March 31 at 3:45 p.m.
All these films will be screened at the Canadian Centre for Architecture's Paul Desmarais Theatre.
“Provencher_Roy has supported the arts since its founding. We believe it is crucial to sustain and showcase creativity, and our longstanding partnership with FIFA is part of our commitment to doing that. We are delighted to once again this year participate in presenting the work of great architects and urban planners who have left an indelible mark on the profession,” explains Lucie Bouthillette, VP Marketing, Communications and Business Development at Provencher_Roy.
In addition to the film screenings, there will be special events held for the duration of the festival, and the 6th International Market of Films on Art (MIFA), whose theme is the exploration of the latest trends, will take place March 30 to April 1 at the SAT.
