The UQAM Centre de Design has unveiled its 2016 winter term exhibitions: miniaturized Netherlands design, the animation work of illustrator/filmmaker Michèle Lemieux, and upcoming artists in Design Spring.

Supermodels
January 27 – February 7, 2016

A travelling exhibition from the Netherlands, Supermodels features 1:6 scale models of chairs emblematic of Dutch design, created with 3D printing. The exhibition also includes architectural models of celebrated projects by Dutch architects Gerrit Rietveld, Van Doesburg/Van Eesteren, Jan Benthem, and Hans Heeswijk, to name a few. This exhibition was conceived by the design firm CONCERN and is presented in Montreal with the support of the Netherlands Embassy.

Michèle Lemieux, from Drawing to Animation

This exhibition will feature the work of Quebec illustrator and animator Michèle Lemieux. Le tout et la partie. Michèle Lemieux, from Drawing to Animation will focus on sketches Lemieux has created for animated films, including Here and the Great Elsewhere, produced for the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) between 2003 and 2012. In addition, as the artist works on a new film, the public will have a unique opportunity to see her preliminary sketches and visual experiments with pinscreen animation – a technique invented in France in the 1930s by Alexander Alexeïeff and Claire Parker – on a pinboard owned by the NFB.

Design Spring
May 5 – May 15, 2016

Displayed on every floor of the Design Pavilion, Design Spring will comprise six exhibitions of student projects from each UQAM School of Design program.

Illumination of the UQAM Centre de design and videoprojections on its façade
A work that changes to reflect events in the Quartier des Spectacles and programming at the Centre de Design is projected at dusk from Wednesday to Sunday on the facade of the UQAM Design Pavilion.

From December 10, 2015, to January 30, 2016, an original projection by Maotik will be featured in conjunction with Luminothérapie 2015-2016, with its installation Impulsion by Lateral Office and CS Design. It will be followed by 9 x [MTL], a colourful work created by two Montreal motion design animators, Gabriel Poirier-Galarneau and Vincent Bilodeau. These projects are realized by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, as part of the Quartier's Luminous Pathway.
